I can’t wait for this trip to Ghana! It has been on my bucket list for a while and this year I will tick it off. Looking forward to learning their rich history and experiencing life on the West side of our lovely continent. Plus with COVID restrictions easing up, the timing is perfect. Check in to the hotel and relax. The first day is at leisure.
After breakfast at hotel we will leave for a full day city tour of Accra visiting. Your first stop on the tour is the Casket making shop where various designs of caskets are produced based on the African belief of life after death .Drive past the Independence Arch and the Black Star Square which is Ghana’s National ceremonial grounds. The Mausoleum site was the Old Polo grounds for the European during the colonial period until 1957. This Mausoleum has been visited by many world dignitaries.
Depart after breakfast to visit the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Cocoa Farm at Akuapem Mampong, the very first cocoa farm established in Ghana from seeds brought from Fernando Po in 1876. From this small beginning grew Ghana’s cocoa industry and Ghana’s largest export. Cocoa from Ghana is used to blend some of the world’s finest chocolates.
Depart Akosombo to Accra via a visit a Beads Factory and workshop where beautiful African bead jewelry is made of clay, bones and glass using centuries old and modern methods in producing these treasured African jewelry items. The significance of Beads in our traditional and cultural settings vary from those used for newly borns, for Marriage Ceremonies and for general occasions. This will offer you an opportunity to see bead designing, firing, polishing and stringing and to learn about the various Beads and their significance.
All participants will be dressed in white on this day.
After the Breakfast at hotel and hotel check
Depart Accra to the Central Region driving past several fishing and coconut lined beaches. Our first stop is at Cape Coast where we visit the Cape Coast Castle which was originally started by the Swedes in 1652.continue to Elmina for a tour of the Elmina Castle another UNESCO World Heritage Monument the oldest and largest European structure built in sub-Saharan Africa. This was built by the Portuguese in1482 and later used as an auction market for enslaved Africans for a comprehensive guided tour. See the slave dungeons and condemned cells where slaves who resisted were incarcerated and starved to death.
After breakfast , Depart to visit the pristine Kakum National Park. Go on a morning walk of the ‘Kuntan Trail’ with its countless trees with medicinal properties. For the young at heart, experience the “Canopy Walk” suspended 100 feet from the ground for a panoramic view of the flora and fauna of one of the remaining vestiges of the rain forest.
After Breakfast , Day at leisure for last minute shopping and packing.
Transfer to airport for departure.
